It's that time of year again! Taxes are due for many Wisconsin residents and if you own a dog, that also means renewing your dog license. But, why get my dog licensed?
First and foremost, it's against the law to own a dog and not have it licensed with the county in which you live.
It is proof that your dog is properly vaccinated against rabies. If your dog were to get bitten by another dog or wild animal or if your dog bites a human, there are federally established rules that apply for unvaccinated animals. Unfortunately, animals without proof of an up-to-date rabies vaccines must undergo strict isolation protocols and may even be euthanized if those protocols cannot be followed.
When you license your dog, you also obtain a dog ID tag with a special number. That tag is specific to your animal and can be used if your animals goes missing.
The money from the dog license goes directly back into the community to support local animal control officers and animals shelters.
If you live in Sawyer county, and your dog's rabies vaccine is still up to date, you can renew your license right online! https://www.doglicenses.us/WI/Sawyer/
You can contact your County Treasurer's office or the Animal Shelter on where to purchase tags.
